We built Thunder AXE for experienced players who want to explore a different combination of handling, touch and controlled power. We did not build it around the idea that one paddle should suit everyone.

What stands out in his account is the change in feel: the sound at contact, how the paddle moved through his swing and how it handled in windy conditions. He also discusses its condition after several months of play.
These are observations from one player. They are useful precisely because you can listen to the whole review and form your own judgment.
Who is the KOBO Thunder AXE for?
Some players want immediate rebound from a short, compact stroke. Others prefer a response that lets them shape the shot and supply more of the acceleration themselves.
Neither preference makes someone a better or worse player. It does mean the same paddle can leave two people with very different impressions.
Thunder AXE is our control-forward, all-court design. We recommend it primarily to upper-intermediate and advanced players who already have a sense of the response they want from their equipment.
If your priority is effortless pop, the lightest possible paddle or a familiar conventional shape, it may not be your first choice. That is a useful distinction to make before you buy.

The core and surface reflect our focus on touch, handling and controlled response. These are design intentions—not a guarantee that every player will experience the same benefit.

How we think about mixed reviews
When a paddle attracts strong opinions, it is tempting to look for a verdict that settles everything. We think a more useful approach is to ask what each reviewer actually experienced.
What feel were they expecting? Which shots did they test? What did they like, and what did they find difficult?
A negative experience deserves to be heard. So does a positive one. We do not need every player to prefer Thunder AXE, and we do not assume that disagreement means someone lacks skill.
Our responsibility is to explain the product clearly enough that you can make a considered choice. Jim’s review is one part of that picture. Your own preferences remain the deciding factor.
Is Thunder AXE a fit for your game?
Take a closer look if you know the feel you want, value placement alongside pace, and are open to an unconventional design.
Before choosing, ask yourself:
- Which shots matter most to me? Identify a specific situation—such as a reset, block or controlled drive—rather than expecting equipment to improve everything.
- What response do I enjoy? Think about how much rebound you want from a compact stroke and how much acceleration you prefer to supply yourself.
- Am I comfortable with the specifications? Consider the weight and shape alongside your current paddle. If a demo is available, compare familiar shots before deciding.
Being experienced does not automatically make this the right paddle for you. Being new does not make your opinion less valuable. Fit comes from the relationship between your technique, preferences and equipment.

KOBO positions Thunder AXE as a control-forward, all-court paddle. It is intended for players who value touch and placement and supply acceleration through their swing, rather than players seeking maximum immediate pop.
Is Thunder AXE suitable for beginners?
Our primary recommendation is for upper-intermediate and advanced players. Beginners can consider it, but should compare its weight, response and price with other options before choosing. A paddle does not replace practice or sound technique.
